Presentation of books from “History and Literature” series

knijnina_vladeteli_thumb.jpgOn December 1, 2010, the Department of Cyril and Methodius Studies at the Faculty of Slavic Studies organized in the University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski” the official presentation of the books “The Synodic of Tsar Boril. Edition and Translation” and “Ruler and Administration in Early-Medieval Bulgaria. Philological Aspects” from the series “History and Literature”. 

knijnina_plakat_1.jpgThe book series is published under the project “History and Historicism in the Slavic Orthodox World. Study of Historical Thought” financed by the National Fund for Scientific Research of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education, Youth and Science. The event, to which the academic audience showed large interest, was opened by the project manager Prof. Anna-Maria Totomanova.   
knijnina_vladeteli_2.jpgProf. Tatyana Slavova’s book “Ruler and Administration in Early-Medieval Bulgaria. Philological Aspects” was presented by Corr.-Member Prof. DSc Ivan Dobrev. In his exposé, he stressed the great merits of the book to reconstruct to the extent possible the Bulgarian institutions from 9th to early 11th century and ruler’s titles in pagan and early Christian times on the basis of philological analysis of the existing written sources.   
knijnina_sinodnik_3.jpgThe new edition of “The Synodic of Tsar Boril”, collective work of Prof. Anna-Maria Totomanova from Sofia University, Prof. Ivan Bozhilov and Prof. Ivan Bilyarski, both Senior Research Fellows of the Institute of History of the BAS, was presented by Acad. Vasil Gyuzelev. He stressed the authors’ achievement not only to successfully reconstruct this important literary monument, but to place it in its original liturgical, canonical and dogmatic context, to translate it in Bulgarian and English and to make detailed philological and historic comments.
