- How to obtain a library user card?
If you have a valid electronic card of Sofia University, you can use services and resources of the Central University Library and its 27 library branch libraries for the duration of the card’s validity. More information about how to obtain an electronic card can be found here.
The registration of library users who do not own an electronic card takes place in the Central University Library from Monday to Friday, from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. Faculty members, PhD students, students and staff members of Sofia University will need to present a valid University identification document during registration and pay a one-time fee of 3,00 € / 5.87 BGN for the card. The library card grants access to the Central University Library and its` entire network of 27 branch libraries. More information can be found in the Library Rules of Service.
- Can I use the University Library services if I am not a student of Sofia University?
Yes, you need to register as a library user at Sofia University Library. More information about the provided services may be found on the section Services:
- Is it possible to borrow printed materials for home use from the library?
Faculty and staff of Sofia University may borrow printed materials for home use from the Central University Library and from all 28 branch libraries. Students may borrow materials for home use only from the branch libraries.
External readers are not allowed to borrow library materials for home use.
- Can I search the library electronic catalogue outside the library building?

- How to request a book or an article that is not available in the library?
You can request library materials from foreign and Bulgarian libraries using the Interlibrary Loan services.
- My username and password do not work and I cannot make an online request. What should I do?
First, make sure that you use the correct identification data. Use identification ID from user cards issued by the University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Use ID (example: UL001234) or identification barcode (example: SU123456) for user cards issued by Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. If the input still does not allow you access to the library electronic catalogue, contact a librarian following the Feedback button in the electronic catalogue.
- How to renew borrowed library materials online?
You need to sign in to the electronic catalogue of University Library. For this you need a user ID and a password, which you can find in your library user card. See here. http://libsu.uni-sofia.bg/pdf/podnoviavane1.pdf
- Can I use all the resources in the digital collections freely?
The Sofia University Library strictly complies with the Copyright Law. Only resources without copyright or with permission from the authors for digitization and upload are open access and can be used for private purposes. The other resources are digitized for preservation purposes and can only be used in the university computer network.
- How to obtain remote access to library databases?

- How to connect to the wireless network in the library?
To make an internet connection you need to connect to the wireless network of Sofia University SU Wi-Fi.
- Is it possible to ask for help online?
Yes, there are three possibilities: you may consult librarians using the service “Ask the Librarian”, or using the Feedback button in the electronic catalogue of the University Library, as well as writing to email: lsu@libsu.uni-sofia.bg.
