“The Internet Presence of the Zograph Manuscripts” was the topic of the third meeting of the “Friends of the Zograph Room” Club

The meeting was held at the Central University Library on the day the library celebrated its 137th anniversary. The director of the library, assoc. prof. Bilyana Yavrukova, received flowers from the club members and their wishes for the continued success of the University Library.

Prof. Andrey Boyadzhiev described the creation of the Zograph Room and presented the website of the Zograph Electronic Research Library.

The process of digitization and subsequent description of the documents, in order to enrich and expand the information about the manuscripts that are part of the Zograph collection, was discussed. There was also a discussion about the possibility of virtual restoration of documents, located in various repositories around the world, thus achieving a reconstruction of the original manuscripts. An explanation of the process of compiling the database, necessary for researchers – on the authors of manuscripts, the spelling of their names in different languages, the places where the manuscripts were created, with added links to various national libraries and repositories where more information on the subject is stored – was given, along with examples.

It was emphasized that there is a need for coordination among the teams who are working on researching and publishing documents from the rich collection of the Zograf Monastery. The idea was shared that more researchers should be involved in preparing descriptions of already digitized manuscripts, as well as the participation of students in scientific research activities in the future.
