The library collection has been growing over the years through the donations of lecturers, former and current students, publishers, the lecturers of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), as well as through the assistance of Prof. Gert Hummel from the University of Saarland (Saarbrücken) and Prof. Hans-Gerd Winter from the University of Hamburg.

The reading room has a rich reference collection of dictionaries, encyclopaedias and reference books, and specialized literature in the fields of linguistics, literary studies and cultural studies.  Books on history, psychology, philosophy, law, religion and politics are also available. The library collection consists of about 12,000 volumes of books and periodicals. There are 12 user places in the reading room.
