A complete renovation is carried out on the first floor of the Central University Library – the central foyer, reading rooms, catalogue room and circulation desk. The exterior facade of the Central University Library is renovated.

2009
The University Library successfully migrated from ILIS ALEPH 300 to ILIS ALEPH 500.
The University Library becomes part of the NALIS project (National Academic Library and Information System) and begins the retrospective conversion of its catalogues.
A complete renovation of the second floor of the Central University Library is carried out.
A specialized reading room is established at the Central University Library, intended for students with special educational needs. The reading room is fitted with the necessary equipment to meet the needs of visually impaired students – a Braille printer, a Braille display, a magnifier, and specialized software.

2010
Circulation module is implemented in all branch libraries. Started working with the Interlibrary Loan module of ILIS ALEPH.
The Journalism branch library is relocated to new premises in the renovated wing of the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication.
2011
Bibliographic records for the rare and valuable editions in the Studii reading room are created in ILIS ALEPH.
The Law branch library is completely renovated and reorganized.

2012
The retrospective conversion of the union catalogue of foreign-language books and the catalogue of books in foreign Cyrillic scripts has been completed. Retrospective conversion of the catalogue of books in Bulgarian has begun.
Work begins on creating digital library collections using the DigiTool software. Over 30,000 pages have been scanned and processed and presented in 6 digital collections.
The online request service is introduced at the Central University Library.
In September, work was successfully completed on the project “Reconstruction, Modernization, and Energy Efficiency Measures in the Rectorate Complex of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski” under OP “Regional Development 2007–2013” for “Support for Providing Suitable and Cost-Effective Infrastructure for Higher Education Institutions in Urban Agglomerations”, which included the renovation and air-conditioning of 1,000 square meters of the Central Library’s book storage facility and the complete reconstruction, renovation, and air-conditioning of the Philology branch library.
2013
The University Library received the “Library of the Year” award from the Bulgarian Library and Information Association.
The personal photo archive, handwritten lecture notes, and research publications of Acad. Stoyan Argirov have been digitalized.
A new website of the library has been created and launched online.
The Physics branch library has been reorganized, with 80% of its collection available to the public.
The Law branch library has been expanded and reorganized. A separate storage space equipped with mobile shelving has been established.
In the Central University Library, the first floor of the central book storage facility has been renovated, providing excellent conditions for the storage of approximately 50,000 volumes.
2014
The retrospective conversion of the University Library’s collective catalogues has been completed. Over 620,000 records have been created in the electronic catalogue.
The Zograf Electronic Research Library has been established as a result of a mutual agreement between Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the Zograf Monastery “St. Great Martyr George”
The Mathematics and Informatics branch library has been completely renovated with faculty funds, with a separate book storage area, equipped with mobile shelving.
The Classical Philology branch library has been completely reorganized and moved to a new location.
In the Central Library building, a Librarian’s Room has been established with a personal donation from prof. Al. Dimchev.
2015
As part of the continuation of the NALIS project, all published volumes of the Sofia University Annuals have been analytically catalogued.

2016
The library migrated to the DSpace software for managing digital collections. A total of 13 collections have been created, containing over 2 050 titles.

New Rules and Regulations governing the organization and operations of the University Library are adopted.
The University Library acquired the personal library of the German historian Prof. Heinz Duchhardt, which is stored in the Central Library, and the personal library of the English theologist Gerald Bonner, which is stored in the Theology branch library.

The University Library has been awarded the honorary “Quality Mark” prize at the first “Quality Mark” competition, organized by the University Center for Quality Management at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. The award was granted for the University Library’s sustained efforts, its continuous pursuit of quality improvement and the introduction of new technologies in the execution of library processes.

The library’s collection of rare and valuable editions has been expanded with 57 volumes – theological and philosophical works from XVI to XIX centuries in Latin, French, Italian, English, Russian and Church Slavonic – purchased from the collector Angel Radushev.
The foyer of the Central University Library has been renovated.

The University Library, together with the other founding members, withdraws from the NALIS Foundation and assumes full management of the digital collections, which have been migrated to the library’s own server.
The processing of the purchased personal library of prof. Emil Boev is completed; it is stored in compact form at the Eastern Languages and Culture branch library.
The digitalization of the Slavica collection is completed.

The Laboratory for the Digitalization of Documentary Heritage, equipped with modern scanners from the Center of Excellence Heritage BG, has been founded.
The International Standard for Bibliographic Description: Consolidated Edition has been adopted.

2024
On April 16th, 2024, with the full support of the Center of Excellence Heritage BG, the Laboratory for Conservation and Restoration of Rare Books was opened and equipped as part of the University Library.
Assoc. Prof. Bilyana Yavrukova was appointed as director of the University Library.
The Dr. Wolfgang Kraus Austrian Library and the German Library were incorporated into the University Library, thus forming a new branch library for German and Scandinavian Studies, which also includes the Nordica Library.
A new service has been introduced at the University Library – the generation and registration of DOI identifiers.
2025
The Zograf Room has been relocated to the Mediateca reading room at the Central University Library.
A new digital collections management platform, CultIS, has been implemented, providing access to over 43 000 digital resources, which are organized into 20 collections. The platform is integrated with the Bulgarian Portal for Open Science.
The University Library began actively supporting open science by providing technical assistance for the publication of open-access periodicals and by offering the option for secondary publication of research publications in the University Library’s digital collections.
The DIUU branch library was closed.
A new organizational structure for the University Library was adopted. Revisions and additions to the Regulations of the Organization and the Activity of Sofia University Library and new Rules for Service were adopted.
