Services for readers with special educational needs

The University Library digitizes study resources to support students with visual, sensory, and physical disabilities that make reading or handling books and other library materials difficult.

Students may request the digitization of course materials. The service includes document digitization, optical character recognition (OCR), and text editing, allowing users to work with the materials using specialized software. The resources are published in the digital collection “Literature for Readers with Special Educational Needs”, available at https://digital.libsu.uni-sofia.bg/bg/v/176.

The collection may be used by all current and former students of Sofia University with visual, sensory, or other disabilities affecting reading access.

To ensure copyright protection and prevent unauthorized downloads, access is available after registration and confirmation via institutional email on the digital platform at: mediateka[at]libsu.uni-sofia.bg

Requests for digitization should be sent to:mediateka[at]libsu.uni-sofia.bg

A specialized reading room intended for readers with special educational needs is located in the Central University Library.  The room is equipped with a reading station featuring a Braille printer, a Braille display, computer equipment, and specialized software, and it provides access to library resources. It has a separate entrance and is accessible via the parking area in the courtyard of Sofia University. The University Library provides a free annual library card for all readers with special educational needs.
