The Biological Library is one of the oldest libraries within the University Library Network. Its collections were given a start in 1891 with the establishment of the course “Natural History”. It became a faculty library in 1962 when the two libraries at Botany and Zoology Departments merged. A large part of its collections were formed through donations by Pensoft Publishers, the Federation of European Biochemical Societies, the French Embassy in Sofia, the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria, St. Cyril and St. Methodius International Foundation, etc.

Today the Biological Library successfully combines traditional and modern library technologies. Its collections consist of more than 83,400 volumes of books, serials, reference editions and electronic resources. It has 13 reading places, including 1 computerized workstation.
