The laboratory “Digitization of Documentary Heritage” was opened two days after the 135th anniversary of the University Library. The equipment with high-tech scanners is provided within the project BG05M2OP001-1.001-0001 “Creation and development of “Heritage BG” Centre of Excellence”, financed within the Operational Program Science and Education for Smart Growth 2014-2020.
The head of the project prof. Prof. Ivan Ilchev congratulated the attendees and wished successful work of the Sofia University Library specialists with the new equipment.
The Director of the Library referref to the 135th anniversary of the Library and outlined that thanks to the modern equipment obtained within the project, the librarians will be able to digitize the world cultural heritage kept by the University Library faster and with higher quality.
The main coordinator of the project prof. Olya Harizanova pointed out that the laboratory is a valuable acquisition for the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, especially in the context of the anniversary of the University Library. The largest scientific library in the country now has the opportunity to use modern and reliable equipment for digitization of its unique library collections, and also to offer digitization as a service to other organizations. She thanked the company Kontrax AD as the contractor of the public tender under which the equipment was delivered.
The event was attended by representatives of the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski”, the Cyrillo-Methodian Research Center at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Central Library of BAS, the National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”, librarians from the Sofia University Library, etc.
