“A Strict Reverend in the Temple of Science”: Exhibition dedicated to 140 years from the birth of Prof. Stoyan Romanski

The exhibition at the University Library presents the scientific and teaching achievements of Prof. Stoyan Romanski. Its numerous publications in the field of Linguistics, Ethnography, Slavic literature, Dialectology, his first scientific research, and his dissertation thesis defended at the University of Leipzig in 1908, dictionaries he authored and edited, ethnographic maps, articles and reviews, published in the country and abroad.

Featured are Prof. Stoyan Romanski’s courses in his nearly 40-year academic career at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski .” In the central showcases of the exhibition are displayed his manuscripts, from the University Archive, and his courses in Slavic, Ethnography and History of Slavic Philology, which are part of the University Library collections.

Diploma works from the ethnographic collection of student manuscripts are presented, including 396 theses from the Faculty of Slavic Philology, defended between 1929 and 1952 at Sofia University, under Prof. Stoyan Romanski scientific guidance, which is among the most valuable collections of the University Library.

The exhibition dedicated to 140 years from the birth of Prof. Stoyan Romanski will be on view at the Central University Library lobby in March and April.
