The exhibition in the University Library St. Kliment Ohridski lobby presents the history of the Department of Classical Philology through faculty’s scientific publications.
Along with the introductory lecture of Prof. D. Dechev from 1921, which marked the beginning of the Department centenary, are presented monographs on Antiquity, grammars, dictionaries, textbooks, translations of authors from the World Classics and Hermes Library editions, Delos, Archetype, Libri Legendi, and the Studia Classica Serdicensia series, as well as volumes of the earliest periodical Prometheus published by the Department. These numerous scientific contributions testify that priorities set forward by the first university lecturers continue to develop successfully throughout its century-old history.
The exhibition also presents the Classical Philology Library and emphasizes on its unique specialized collection in Greek, Latin, Byzantine, Medieval history, Archaeology and Classical antiquity literature.
The exhibition is part of series of events dedicated to the anniversary of the department of Classical Philology, and can be viewed at the University Library in October and November 2021. Visitors may share their impressions of the exhibition in the Book of Impressions and Congratulations.
