The Nordic Studies Library was opened in 1998 with the financial support from the embassies of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland, as well as through an important contribution on the part of Prof. Vera Gancheva and Prof. Boris Parashkevov from Sofia University. Nordic Studies Library has unique collection, which has been created and enriched through valuable donations from institutions and individuals from all Scandinavian countries. For a short time, along with its academic functions, the library gained reputation as an information center for the history, culture and contemporary life in the countries of the Scandinavian peninsula.
The subject scope of its collections, containing over 7,600 library items, is wide and varied – encyclopedias and reference books, dictionaries and textbooks, works on literature and linguistics, fiction, geographical albums, catalogs, audio and videotapes, CDs. There is a separate open access collection of the most used educational resources in various fields of Scandinavian Studies, which continues to be enriched with new acquisitions.
The library has 12 reading places, including 2 computerized workstations.
