The Geography library was founded in 1900 by Prof. Anastas Ishirkov, founder of the Bulgarian geographical science. Its special collections were enriched through donations by the Bulgarian Geographic Society, the Institute of Geography to the BAS and others. The library holds the private libraries of the Sofia University professsors Prof. Guncho Gunchev and Prof. Anastas Ishirkov.
Today the library has a leading position in library and information services provision to students and professors of the Faculty of Geology and Geography. It has a unique collection of maps and atlases.
It has more than 70,800 library items (books, encyclopedias, serials and reference books, maps, atlases, e-resources).
The library has 18 reading seats, including 2 computerized workstations.
