Exhibition: “130 Years of Bulgarian Independence”


rtv.thumb.2.jpgOn 27 February 2008 at the University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski” was opened the jubilee exhibition “130 Years of Bulgarian Independence”. This was the first event organized by the library in the year celebrating the 120th anniversary of Sofia University. 

rtv.plakat_1.jpgThe exhibition was opened by Mrs. Anna Angelova, Ph.D, director of the University Library, in the presence of representatives of the embassies of the countries participating in the Russo-Turkish War 1877-1878 (Russia, Romania, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus), faculty-members and many students. Sofia University Rector Prof. Ivan Ilchev presented rare engravings, reports and correspondence, which bring to light the nature and course of the War of Liberation. Representatives of the diplomatic missions of countries participating in the war spoke about its consequences for their countries.

It includes manifestos, research notes, monographs, maps, albums, anniversary collections, regional studies, memoirs, as well as articles in Russian, Western European and Bulgarian emigrant press. The exhibition is richly illustrated with engravings by Russian and Spanish artists. Portraits of all Russian military commanders, copies of paintings of Bulgarian and Russian artists and other items are also displayed.
