Exhibition “Gabriel Garcia Marquez – the universal Colombian”

ggm_plakat.jpgOn 22nd  March 2017 in the Sofia University Library was opened the exhibition “Gabriel Garcia Marquez - the universal Colombian”. The opening was attended by Mr. Javier Valdivielso - Director of the Cervantes Institute, diplomats, translators, academics, publishers, journalists, participants in the international scientific symposium dedicated to the 90th  anniversary of the birth of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and 50 years since the release of "One hundred years of solitude".  The colloquium is organized by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Philology at the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology.

At the opening of the exhibition the Director of the Sofia University Library Assoc. Prof. Anna Angelova determined Garcia Marquez as one of the greatest artists of the XX century and presented the exhibition, in which the emphasis is the reception of Marquez in Bulgarian language. She described the role of the translator as a factor of great importance in the spread of fiction and congratulated the Bulgarian translators of Marquez. The books in the exhibition are presented in parallel - in Spanish and the corresponding translation in Bulgarian. Along with famous works of Marquez the visitors of the exhibition have the opportunity to see interviews with the great Colombian and analysis of his works.

The head of Department “Spanish and Portuguese Philology” Assoc. Prof. Tatyana Panteva thanked the Sofia University Library for the excellent organization of the first manifestation of the international scientific symposium dedicated to the 90th  anniversary of the birth of Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Rafael Alvarado - Honorary Consul of Colombia, expressed his satisfaction that in the month, in which the whole world celebrates the 90th  anniversary of the birth of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, at Sofia University conducted a scientific forum organized by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Philology, Sofia University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski”, University Cultural Centre, Embassy of Colombia in Warsaw and the Cervantes Institute - Sofia.

On behalf of Mr. Victoria González-Ariza - Ambassador of Colombia, Rafael Alvarado gave the Sofia University Library an anniversary edition of “One Hundred Years of Solitude” printed in Colombia. Assoc. Prof. Angelova thanked for the precious gift and handed an thanksgiving address for the donation.

In the showcases of the library can be viewed the new editions of “Chronicle of a death foretold”, “Twelve wandering stories”, “Love in the time of cholera”, “Of love and other demons”, which the manager of the publishing house “Lachezar Minchev” donated to the University library. Assoc. Prof. Anna Angelova thanked for the donation of Lachezar Minchev and assured him that the readers of the Sofia University Library already are expecting the new books.
