The exhibition “A Way to God” – the Revival Samokov – a town of blacksmiths, zographs and typographers”

vazrozhdenski_samokov_plakat.jpgA joint exhibition of the Regional History Museum – Samokov, Sofia University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the “Centre for Slavo-Byzantine Studies “Prof. Ivan Dujcev” was opened on May 22nd. It was attended by Prof. Reneta Bozhankova – Vice Rector of Sofia University, Prof. Vasya Velinova – Director of the Centre for Salvo-Byzantine Studies “Prof. Ivan Dujcev”, Prof. Hristo Temelski – Director of the Church and Historical and Archival Institute, university professors, scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Science, museum specialists, journalists and a lot of guests.

The Director of the Sofia University Library – Assoc. Prof. Anna Angelova welcomed the guests and emphasized the role of Samokov as a unique Revival town and a centre of secular cultural traditions. She pointed out that thanks to the excellent collaboration with the Regional History Museum in Samokov the exhibition presented authentic artifacts.
Visitors can see and valuable manuscripts from the Centre for Slavo-Byzantine Studies “Prof. Ivan Dujcev” and from the collections of the Sofia University Library. Books, owned by Samokov zographs can be seen for the first time. They have interesting chronicle notes, drawings, autographs and dedication notes.
According to Assoc. Prof. Angelova the exhibition presents a historical fact that can be slightly seen in a lot of research – the zographs were keen on books and had owned big private libraries and collections. The Director of Sofia University Library said the exhibition included and research dedicated to the town and to the Samokov zographs and pointed out that the exhibition is attended by some heirs of some famous Samokov families.
The Vice Rector Prof. Reneta Bozhankova greeted the organizers of the exhibition and the guests of its opening. “The Bulgarian Revival is a period of a lot of inspiration and devotion, as well as entrepreneurship and foresight”, said Prof. Bozhankova. She added that they are supported by the wonderful nature. The protection of the mountains of this nice place, where was a lot of culture and prosperity presenting its small treasures, which reflect and initiate much research. She wished success to the exhibition.
The Director of Church and historical and archival institute and researcher of Revival Samokov prof. Temelski expressed his satisfaction that so many young people had come to see the exhibition. The main subject of his speech was the development of the iron and steel industry in the region from the Middle Ages and its role for affirmation of Samokov as a prosperous Revival town. He has pointed out that since 1557 the town has been an Eparchy centre and there were Bulgarian metropolitan which is important for the cultural and literary work. There were more than 26 handicrafts.
The Director of the Regional History Museum – Samokov Veselin Hadzhiangelov greeted the guests of the exhibition with the Day of Slavonic literature and culture and invited them in Samokov to see the renewed exhibitions of the History Museum. 
The exhibition will be opened until the end of June 2019.
Digital photographic exhibition "The Cyrillic alphabet"

kirilicata_plakat.jpgDuring the period May 15th - June 7th, the Sofia University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski” hosts the digital photograph exhibition “The Cyrillic alphabet” - a virtual interactive installation dedicated to the history of letters celebrations during different periods of Bulgarian history. There are presented pictures of drawings and dolls dedicated to the Bulgarian alphabet. They were created by children with hearing impairments.

The photographs and stories are prepared by the NALIS Foundation. The members of the society for culture and empathy “Shtarkelite” Margarita Drumeva and Iveta Georgieva actively participated in the compilation of materials, the preparation of the exhibition and the realization of the workshop with children from the Association of Parents of Hearing Impaired Children.
At the opening of this non-traditional exhibition, Assoc. prof. Anna Angelova welcomed everyone and pointed out that every year in May we celebrate the great work of the first teachers. "This celebration is usually associated with the aroma of the peony bouquet, the opulent school manifestation, and one song - a great, beloved, that makes our hearts beat with a fast rhythm. We connect the celebration with our responsibility as guardians of the letters and the book, and it is our identity in the European cultural space. This holiday associates us as the country of spirit”. 
Antonela Freza, Vice President of the International Consortium for Photographic Heritage and Project Manager of “We are Europe for Culture”, presented the exhibition. Assoc. prof. Emiliya Zankina, Vice Rector of the American University in Bulgaria and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NALIS Foundation, briefly presented the activities of NALIS and thanked Assoc. Prof. Angelova - "one of the founders of NALIS, and to Sabina Aneva, who makes it possible". 
Sabina Aneva, Executive Director of the NALIS Foundation, presented the exhibition and especially focused on the participation of children with special educational needs.
"Night of Literature" at the Sofia University Library

Stoyan Argirov " in the Sofia University Library was one of the 19 reading places located in the capital centre, where the initiative for popularizing contemporary European literature took place on 15 May 2019. From 18.00 to 21.30 the connoisseurs of Italian literature, listened extracts from the novel "Second Summer" by Christina Kasar Skalia, read by journalist Iva Doychinova. The book, translated into Bulgarian by Natasha Velichkova-Petrova, was published by the Publishing House “Iztok-Zapad” in 2018. 
The organizing team of the event thanked the hosts of the University Library for joining the Night of Literature initiative and the opportunity for the participants to touch the 130-year history of the institution.
